Dear MSSA Friends,
MSSA’s flagship bill this session, to encourage the manufacture of ammunition components in Montana, is scheduled to have its public hearing before the Senate Taxation Committee on Wednesday, 1/21.The problem is that our RKBA is entirely exposed to a very narrow production chain for essential ammunition components, especially smokeless powder and primers.  SB 122 would encourage manufacture of those products in Montana by offering liability protection, access to existing economic development programs, and a 20-year tax amnesty.  The tax amnesty is essential to overcome the scale issues in manufacturing these products, scale issues that currently prevent entry into the marketplace by small producers.

You can find the Bill Text, Current Status, General Descriptions for this Bill here:    https://www.mtssa.org/?page_id=172

You need to get messages to committee members to support SB 122.  You can call the Legislative Message Center at 444-4800 and leave a message for all members of the Senate Tax Committee, or you can send an electronic message to all committee members via the legislative Website at:
http://leg.mt.gov/css/Sessions/64th/legwebmessage.asp

Be brief!  Legislators are overwhelmed with work and messages.  It is enough to say “Please support SB 122.”  Do say more if you want, but keep it short.  For more information about the legislative process and contacting legislators, see what I’ve posted about that at:
http://progunleaders.org/Legislative%20Process/

If you can come to the Capitol and speak in favor of SB 122, even better.  Senate Tax meets in Room 405 (4th floor) of the Capitol at 8AM.  If you haven’t addressed a committee of the Legislature before, see my coaching at:
http://progunleaders.org/Legislative%20Process/hearing.html

There is a slight chance (I’d guess 15%) that SB 122 could be rescheduled to a later date.  If so, I’ll let you know immediately.

Legislators REALLY need to hear from you about our bills.  Thanks loads for your help!

Best wishes,
